Metzler House
This house is for a couple who were taken by the idea of living in a contemporary house centred around a pool. In fact there are three pools; the largest for swimming, a plunge pool for use with a sauna, and a third for filtering and re-cycling water. The architects have placed all the programme elements within a rectangular courtyard. This type of development is often inward looking, but here (somewhat unusually) views in and out are available. The accommodation is ranged along the west and north walls, whilst the south and east are mainly perforate. One enters via the NE corner, into a pavilion that holds the kitchen and dining area. The latter is cantilevered over the main pool. Continuing anti-clockwise from here, a short corridor traverses part of the the north wall, in front of a south-facing terrace, and links to the western range of rooms. Here we find a living room, bathroom, dressing room and the only bedroom, each enjoying access to the central atrium.
