Uniqa Tower
Whereas in the past a head office might have been 'lit up' by means of illuminated logos, ads or spotlights, the advent of 'media façades' has greatly expanded the possibilities - not to everyone's delight, however, because when not careful the city can easily turn into a fairground where buildings vie for attention. So when Licht Kunst Licht were commissioned to make a lighting plan for the Uniqa Tower, they were determined to use light 'in an artistic and sophisticated manner that would be techically 'state-of-the-art'. They put 182.000 individually controllable RGB LED video pixels in the cavity of the building's double façade, enough pixels to turn the 75-metre high sculptural tower into one big, continuous screen. The artists group Mader Stublic Wiermann developed the artistic video "twists and turns" running on the video system that processes the video system processes 25 images per second, so the light play flows smoothly and makes the screen a 'second skin'.
