Transformation WDT-hangar

Within the context of the 'Open Call' competition, the design for the re-allocation of the historically valuable WDT-trainhangar into event hall, offices, local sports hall and new sportshall, was elected laureate. The building (12785 m2) is situated in the new park 'spoor noord', designed by Sechi & Vigano. Thanks to the well-considered equilibrium between the historical covering of the existing buildings and a new transparent volume sliding into the existing walls, the building acquires the desired élan of a landmark. At night, the building is transformed into an enormous lamp, a glowing element in the landscape.
