The design of the Leslie L. Dan Building for the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto will provide state-of-the-art facilities for more than 1000 students. The multifunctional building centralises teaching, research and administrative spaces - many of which had been dispersed throughout the campus – in a single structure. The building has been designed to sensitively respond to its immediate surroundings, with its main mass elevated above a 20m-high, five-storey, colonnaded circulation space that matches the cornice heights of two neighbouring historically-listed university buildings and the nearby Ontario Parliament Building. Two silver-coloured pods are suspended within this lower glazed space to house a 60-seat lecture theatre and a smaller classroom/faculty lounge. A central atrium runs through the upper floors.
