The shape of the bridge was influenced by different parameters: On the left riverbanks, below the Marianska skala (rock), there is a highly frequented and narrow corridor of railway service and automobile traffic. In addition to this, due to the strong bend of the river before the bridge, the Danube is much deeper along the left river bank and therefore on this side used for shipping traffic. So it was clear that the pylon had to stand next to the right-hand riverbank. Yet, it stands still in the water, otherwise the bridge would need to be much higher.
