Freigeber Architects and Schuett Architects have designed a new office space for Microsoft’s North-Rhine Westphalian, within the new development area Rheinauhafen. Essentially, the facade of the proposed building complex consists of two supporting, asymmetrical ‘belts’ which, shifted against each other, loop through the whole edifice, thus connecting two individual rhomboid building units in a sculptural way. To ensure a maximum of spatial efficiency, the external parts of the building, which are situated on a flood protection platform, were supplemented with a two-storied bridge construction. The open space under the bridge opens up a stage-like view of the docks.
