In this functional office building, convincingly economical and ecological, the Lufthansa Group is shaping its future, on-site at Frankfurt Airport, one of the central air traffic hubs in Europe. The building can be expanded with new modules, ensuring it will endure into the future. Lufthansa wanted to significantly document its identity and culture, and set a distinctive corporate landmark at the airline’s home base. That vision has produced a transparent building which presents the openness of the world of aviation. 9 Gardens with plants and trees from various continents furnish zones of relaxation. A white sandy beach, an Australian outback, a Japanese Zen garden and pools resembling Alpine lakes in northern Italy – the diversity of the gardens symbolizes the internationality of the Aviation Group. Equally, the gardens are the lungs of the building – they allow it to breathe. Spanned by a glass-latticed roof, they insulate against heat, cold and noise.
