The Villas House Ensemble Lange and Haus Esters is one of the architectural highlights of the new in Germany and still offers an impressive way the Bauhaus idea of the unity of space and the subject, as well as the interaction between mind and crafts provided. In 1927 the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe presented the clients Hermann Lange and Josef Esters a first draft of the drawing. In 1930 houses of the families Lange and Esters were joined. The houses have now been converted into museums for Contemporary art.

The houses are excellent realizations of the earlier Brick Villa project, resolved to the residential urban condition of the sites. The recent restoration has returned the Haus Lange to its rich relationship with the garden; the use of the rooms in the two houses as art gallery spaces sometimes understandibly denies the inside/outside relationship intended by Mies, nonetheless the two houses are wonderful places well worth a visit.
