Het Funen Housing
For the urban renewal programme 'Het Funen' in Amsterdam, DKV Architecten has designed 3 identical housing pavilions that are distributed around the location and named 'Bodoni', 'Plantin' and 'Baskerville'. Each of the housing blocks has 4 storeys with 12 apartments, including 2 penthouses with a spacious roof garden. The zoning plan required parcels of limited dimensions. By liberating the ground floor and the first floor from the upper storeys, the surface area that needs to be accessed could remain within the specified norm of 880 m2, so that it is possible to keep the traffic areas extremely compact. The structures are clear volumes that accommodate the exterior spaces. A white concrete skeleton forms the framework of the image and, within this, the surfaces are alternately substantiated in subtle brickwork and aluminium fronts. At the spots where gaps are left in the block for the entrances and roof gardens, the façade is realized in wood (text from website DKV Architecten).
