Passenger Terminal Amsterdam
With the PTA the city had added a new tourist attraction to the capital. It is the first completed building in the regeneration master plan of the City of Amsterdam for the revitalization of the city's Eastern Docks -a strategic catalyst for urban vitality and renewal. Now big cruise-ships can port at a large terminal in the centre of town, next to the Music Building and Movenpick Hotel. It houses a combination of functions: large meeting spaces, touring car terminal, offices, conference centre and, of course, an underground parking. While in high season (summer) mainly foreign visitors are welcomed, in low season the building is used for city-manifestations, large commercial happenings, expositions and conferences. The PTA is a joint venture between NS Stations (Dutch Railway Stations, 51%) (Marketing) and the Harbour of Amsterdam (49%) (Maritime operations). The London architecture firm HOK has designed a transparent glass façade with a wave-like shape for the nautical look.
