Artist Ruud-Jan Kokke has designed a new fence of 1 kilometre to circumfere the sports complex Olympiaplein in Amsterdam. The square used to be part of the Olympic Games complex and is located in the middle of an urban district. Hollow on the inside and round on the outside, the fence this way embraces the 'inside feeling' of the square. The visual poles are Lombardy poplars at every twenty metres around which the fence is winded. On the south side, a text commemorating famous Dutch athlete Fanny Blankers-Koen was integrated in the filigree on top of the fence, next to the main entrance gate.
