Sports complex Caland
With 10.000 m2 of sports facilities Caland, is one of the bigger sport complexes in Amsterdam West. To fit this huge volume within the green context, the sports complex is segmented in different individual volumes. This pavilion like composition fits carefully in the context. There are two main sports halls of which one is partially integrated in the existing green slope. The roof court with a variety of outdoor sports is placed on top of this hall. The other hall, at the Calandlaan is elevated to accommodate a parking lot underneath. Under the sloping entrance recess lies a dojo, lit by a single red oculus in the roof. The individual sports halls are connected through a meandering volume, which contains traffic space, service area, a restaurant and the main entrance. The interior of this connecting volume has some special design features such as a specially developed wall panel with a sportive pattern and climbing grips as door handles.
