Nautical Centre Scheveningen

The harbour of Scheveningen is being transformed from a fishermen harbour to a ship (yacht) yard with international allure. The arrival of the Nautisch Centrum (Nautical Centre) plays a big part in this. The location of the centre has several aspects. It is situated on the abutment, with the small-scale harbour on one side, and the harbour port with a clear view onto sea on the other side. This situation asked for several scale elements. The harbour side has a vertical section in which balconies recede in the façade. As a result, this façade looks more closed. The varying use of colours on the façades creates a picture that refers to harbours that can be found in Southern European countries. The sea side has a leading horizontal advancement, with the balconies on the outside of the façade giving a view to the open sea.
