Shipping company Van der Zwan
The new office of fishing company Van der Zwan lies on a beautiful but fragile location, because of weather, sea air and surrounded by water at the head of the abutment. The view to the west is spectacular, between the jetties and a direct view on the sea with some beautiful sunsets, butt can be quite haunting. Untreated concrete, steel, aluminum and glass was used; materials that require little maintenance in the harsh environment. It's not possible to drive piles in the ground, the abutment is too fragile, so a foundation is made in the form of 2 concrete tunnels with additional V-shaped columns as carriers of the building. The relatively closed ground floor houses functional storage and inspection areas. Visitors enter the building through a high monumental hall on the west. A broad staircase lead to the first floor with reception, offices, meeting rooms, boardroom and canteen. Here a double glass façade serves as a windbreak and shading.
