The Hangar

In the center of Meerhoven, a Vinex-district in Eindhoven, lies a characteristic air plane hangar which keeps the memory of the former airfield Welschap alive. With the redevelopment and expansion into a complex for education and recreation, the hanger is transformed into a vital cultural center for the district. The program of the multifaceted community school exists of an elementary school, daycare center, after school care and pediatrician, library and audiovisual media library, center for the arts, community center, sports center and fit- en wellness club. To house the extensive program 2 volumes were added. A large part of the hanger has been kept empty which allows space for a covered square, that also functions as the entrance to the complex.
