University of Twente Auditorium Building
The existing auditorium building of the University of Twente has been extended to the south to fit a larger restaurant and additional spaces for academic ceremonies. The central squire remains untouched and a spatial introduction is made towards the large new building on the east side. On the two main levels one can now walk around the central auditoria. Though the new part is in a certain way an extension of the existing building, it is also separating itself by two long incisions. These two voids that separate new and old, bring light into the inner of the building, create spatiality and make it easy to orientate yourself. The new façade is made out of prefabricated concrete elements and opens itself southwards with a beautiful view at the old oak. It is made as a fine structure of horizontal slabs, thus taking care of an unrestricted view while blocking out the sun and the heat. The depth of the slabs creates a nice and natural transition from the inside to the outside.
