Oostpoortcentre
The high office building marks the entrance to the city of Haarlem. It refers to the medieval bastions that once protected this city.
The old fortifications were a distinct marking between the city and countryside.
Like them, Oostpoort Centre stands in the water. The tall, narrow windows are reminiscent of the loopholes in the medieval city walls. The different rhythms of it subtly nuance the iconic appearance of the building.
The base of the building opens literally to the environment and the cantilever top accentuates the symbolic gateway function of the building mass.
