In the "polder Zestienhoven" on the northern outskirts of Rotterdam emerges a new neighbourhood. 42 Bridges are needed to ensure the accessibility in this new water rich residential area. The municipality wants a recognizable family of bridges, inspired by the simple polder bridge. The bridges vary in length, loads and function, this makes every bridge different, on the same time they need one recognizable appearance. The construction of the bridges is a simple concrete slab over the water. The bridge railings define the appearance of the bridges. They are inspired by the varied frequency of reed, and thus seek to join the natural shore vegetation. 5 different standard steel profiles are, with varied distances, welded to the steel edge of the bridge. This creates a 'natural' pattern without a recognizable regularity. The required columns and lamp posts are designed as part of the railing.
