Grain Factory Codrico extension
Codrico is a company for the treatment of grain, pulses and flour. The further modernization of the factory required more installations. The factory complex in Rotterdam is a free arrangement of different blocks. Their mutual relationship is that the façades have a strong graphical appearance, some volumes are solid and some are translucent. Masonry, concrete and glass are the materials used. The new installations are located in an addition on a rooftop. Because of the 24-hour activity of loading and unloading of boats, no scaffolding was allowed along the pier. The idea of the construction is the inverse of a metal sandwich façade for industrial buildings. The light-coloured metal construction is wrapped around the dark-coloured sandwich panels. The beams were put in place by a crane from the water, the façade was mounted from the roof. On the outside, the construction gives the addition a strong graphical appearance, like the rest of the complex.
