With redevelopment of the location, the city council of Tilburg wished to preserve the façades and roofs of the existing building. The reason was that within the listed views of the city the buildings were a landmark, characteristic for the location.
One part of the building has 3 storeys and has been wedged into the original construction, taking into account the preservation of the existing roofline and construction of the main beams. The black brick facades are the decor for the focal point, the white building. Within a vertical grid the windows have been placed at random in such a way that the changing floorlines are not immediately recognisable.
The second part of the building, (4 storeys), is a detached building but built in such a way that the former street-pattern is recognisable again. With the abstract design of the facades we tried to translate the connection between this peculiar historic spot where town-planning and organic growth of the city are still recognisable.
