Fyrstikkterrassen
Fyrstikkterrassen is an office and multipurpose commercial building located east of the center of Oslo, in an area dominated by building expansion and a post war conflict of architectural styles. The client wanted an efficient, leaseable building with a "sellable" visual image. The programme included commercial areas for functions not then known, which is reflected in the juxtaposition of the volumes of the building. The base contains multipurpose areas with the possibility of double height spaces whereas the blocks contains office functions. The project is on an overall town plan level contextual, with clear references to the surroundings buildings, despite its independent architectural expression. The defined base of the building strengthens the urban qualities through its direct reference to the surrounding street pattern, and the stepped section of the volumes reflect and link the varying heights of the surrounding buildings.
