Camões Theatre
Confronted with two imposing adjacent buildings - the 'Pavilion of Knowledge' and the 'Oceanarium' - the design sought simplicity. It's compositional form is somewhat abstract. The base of the building is in keeping with the materials used in the surrounding paving, and as a result seems to secure the structure to the ground. The main entrance is through a foyer with a large window overlooking the 'Sea of Straw', the exterior and interior space intimately linked. The finish in the interior of the auditorium aims to confer an atmosphere of sobriety and brings back the idea of 'La machine du Téatre'.
