Sports Complex in Esquíroz

This project is located on the outskirts of Esquíroz, on the countryside but in close vicinity of the city of Pamplona. The plot is marked by the landscape, by the open cereal crop fields from the Cuenca of Pamplona and the wooded area of the river Elorz. It is also in the nearby presence of numerous infrastructures, the railway, the airport of Noain and a future highway. The project adds several new sports facilities to the existing swimming pool and 'frontón' hall. The bigger volumes are spread out over the plot in a way as to capture the maximum amount of light for the courtyard. Thanks to its placement, the sports complex can be 'read' from different viewpoints, approaching by foot, from the crop fields, from the highway or from the air. The auxiliary functions are accommodated in a strip that winds and bends, defining the enclosed courtyard and connecting the different volumes. A ramp that starts of in the open air and ends up under a canopy separates sportsmen from the crowd.
