NanoPhysics Lab Nanogune
This beige looking lab is located next to one of the city entry roads, near the university. It has an industrial use yet it’s an institutional sediment. It’s also a building boundary between the urban and nature: it starts at the 'asphalt' but is behind the foothills of mount Igueldo. With an urban presence and s base of basalt and glass which gives it an air of "pedestal". The Nanogune consists of a tower of 6 storeys and 6 boxes, has an area of 6,000 sqm and is covered with a "skin" that gives it a gray or golden shine. The building has a bioclimatic façade, "a kind of thermal quilt" in the words of the architect. Exterior esthetics are important to fit the landscape, in the interior a complicated system of protection is required. The most impecible one is the 'clean room', devoted to research and where "not a speck of dust" can enter. Both this room and the basement laboratories are built in a tight space, isolated from any vibration, electromagnetic interference, noise and dirt.
