Alamillo Bridge
This is a road (motor) ánd pedestrian bridge over the river Meandro de San Jerónimo, next to the Guadalquivir River in Sevilla. Pedestrians walk across the spine of the bridge and the cars cross below. Total length of the bridge is 250 m and maximum span is 200 m. The pylon inclines 58 degrees. The total length of the viaduct is 526.5 m. This type is a cable-stayed bridge. Rather than use back stays, the weight of the concrete and steel pylon provides a counterbalance for the bridge deck, and the cables create a dialogue of balance between pylon and deck. The bridge was built for the Expo '92 , which was held on the large undeveloped island La Cartuja. Four new bridges were built, of which Calatrava designed two. The bridge form has been compared to a harp, ship's mast, and swan.
