Spanish Garden Chiang Mai
In 2006, Thailand commemorated the 80th birthday of its monarch, Bhumiol Adulyadej, and the 60th anniversary of his accession to the throne.
Among the commemorative celebrations is the Ratchaphruek 2006 Royal flora International Exhibition. The Ratchaphruek, the tree which gives the exhibition its name, is full of significance for the Thais because its flower represents the Buddhist religion as well as the king himself, since the yellow colour of its petals corresponds to Monday, the day when the monarch was born. The show covered an area of 80 hectares divided into a national and an international sector. The latter includes a Spanish delegation sent by the State Society for international Exhibitions.
