The Yas hotel, designed by Hani Rashid and Lise Anne Couture, principals of New York based Asymptote Architecture, opened in Abu Dhabi on Nov 1, 2009 to coincide with the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The Yas Hotel is a 500-room, 85.000-square-meter complex constructed by Aldar Properties PJSC. The commission to design the buildings and environs from a closed competition was awarded in 2007. Project completion was achieved in under two years from design initiation to completed building. The project consists of two twelve story hotel towers linked together by a monocoque steel and glass bridge and Grid Shell structure. The Hotel is sited on land and water celebrating both the Yas Marina Formula 1 Circuit race track as well as the Yas Marina.
