This commission was won via a competition and provides teaching accommodation for 600 students drawn from the schools of management studies and organisational psychology. Included within the programme are teaching rooms and offices (the latter relegated to the two set-back upper floors) all arranged around a slot atrium, together with a lecture theatre for 190 located in the basement. The project is connected to the existing former terraced houses to the north, which are also used as part of the faculty, and the floor levels here follow through into the new building. Whilst these were generous, they were insufficient to allow full air conditioning. Consequently, natural ventilation is provided through opening vents concealed behind louvres on either side of the glazing. Structurally, concrete is used for its thermal mass, which is then clad in brick out of respect for its neighbours. Since its original completion in 1997, the building has been extended east to Woburn Square.
