The Vitro Building (also known as 60 Fenchurch Street) sits at the north end of a small square immediately outside Fenchurch Street Station. It has an inherent simplicity, rare amongst most commercial developments, which marks it out as something better than the average. The plan is straightforward and elegant. Each of the twelve floors consists of a rectangular floor plate - containing the office space - measuring 27 x 15 metres. These are supported by 8 columns, arranged around the perimeter. Along one of the longer sides is the core space, containing two completely glazed stairs, four lifts, toilets and other support spaces. The office space is joined to the core by a link, expressed simply as recesses at either end, and clad with louvers. On the ground floor this also identifies the entrances. The building occupies half the site - the other half is taken by a public square, developed as part of the scheme.
