New build apartments, houses and bungalows were constructed on empty lots between properties on an existing council estate - the result is a facelift for the area and social housing stock that offers improved energy efficiency for the client. The 27 environmentally-friendly properties include photovoltaic roof panels and achieve the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, offering energy efficiency levels 56% above those required by the Building Regulations. The scheme won a prestigious Housing Design Award in 2010 because its design offered regeneration to the whole neighbourhood for minimal investment by Sheffield City Council.
